Mariah, one of my best friends and someone I’ve had model for me throughout many years as my photography portfolio has grown, is staying with me through this Halloween week.
In the past, Mariah has modeled for me for a spooky fine art portfolio – Hitchcock meets nightmare and dreams inspired work.
She has posed in a series of photos around downtown Denton where she only wore a thin dress in freezing weather.
She’s held her breath under water, painfully dealing with water going up her nose for me (thanks best friend haha).
We have even taken photos all over Europe.
She’s been my go to model throughout the years and it’s really nice when I’m feeling a creative itch to try new things or build a part of my portfolio to have Mariah pose for me.
So, of course, I needed Mariah to model for me again because Halloween is my favorite holiday. Halloween has always been my favorite holiday and I could live in October most of the year if that were an option. I absolutely love everything about this month and holiday:
The seasonal color palette is the best. Warm and jewel tones mixed together? Yes please.
Incredible weather: It finally cools off in Texas. You see the bluest skies on certain days but it’s never too hot. On other days, you get the moodiest rainy days and it’s perfect for hibernating indoors with pumpkin candles and jazz.
Spooky stories – I’ve loved those since I was young. It’s probably not the best thing for my mind but I don’t really care in October. My mom was always reading spooky stories, Stephen King, and watching scary movies so I grew up also fascinated with these things.
I LOVE costumes. If I lived in a world where I threw or attended a costume party every month I think I’d be in heaven.
Candy. Yum.
Fall foliage is one of my favorite things. I can never get enough of the changing colors. Other people seem to breeze right past trees when they’re fiery red and yellow but I will stare at them for an extended time and incessantly exclaim about it to the point where everyone around me is probably annoyed.
ANYWAY, this last weekend, my friends and I celebrated Halloween in Denton because Denton throws a big festival that day. It was super fun and Mariah bought the most perfect dress on Amazon for her Halloween costume.
The amount of strangers who stopped to tell her that they loved her dress was hilarious because it was non-stop all day. Someone even ran out of a building and yelled down the sidewalk to Mariah that she wanted Mariah to leave her that dress in her will.
Mariah and I were fortune-tellers this last weekend so she dressed up in her costume again for this photoshoot.
It was a quick shoot – we stayed on the property of where I live and took advantage of the spooky season vibes – it was grey and drizzly.
It’s so much fun to celebrate a season through photography – I love doing that! I’m super excited to share these photos.
Hallow’s Eve arrives today. Beware, the witches come out to play.
